Eating out for the Refined Garou

[Wendy Berber]
*Whats a 6 foot tall Caucasian nerd doing in Chinatown on a Tuesday afternoon? Why looking for Thai food of course. She'd recently discovered Phad Thai, and such a discovery was not meant to be kept under wraps. She walks beside Boy, nibbling her lip nervously as she squints at signs, looking for the curli-cue script that denoted a Thai restaurant. She's sluffed the Huge sweater in favour of an overlarge men's dress shirt. It was cooler. She offers Boy an apologetic smile. She knew it was around here somewhere.*

[Boy]
Oh, now this place held such wonders. Boy was having a bit of a time himself. There was something freeing about watching his mind wander occasionally. The lights of the Magnificent Mile were one thing. But this place had fire, and street lanterns, and vendors selling all manner of oddities. At least they were odd to him.

"Wendy. Wendy that store is selling snake skins."

[Wendy Berber]
Oh! *She looks where Boy's looking, and sees that yes, indeed those are snake skins in the window.* .. Oh! Um.. I think those are for medicinal uses. You know.. skin ailments and things... *She chatters excitedly. Chinatown was offering plenty of chances to explain things, and Wendy seemed most in her element when allowed to educate.*.. they use the um, the gallbladders too. I bet that shop has lots of interesting animal remedies. *She gives Boy a shy smile, pushing at black shaggy hair and adjusting her glasses.*

[Boy]
"Huh..." He says, though not as if he didn't understand what she'd said. A store that sold snake skins and gall bladders?

"Do you think they cleanse it all first? What if they get a bad one?"

It was a valid question. And probably had its own answer. Surely they'd come across such a situation before. Surely this place was magic.

[Wendy Berber]
Cleanse them? Do you mean, um.. Cleanse, or Cleanse Cleanse?.. I mean.. I think they probably just wash them really well. *She considers suggesting they go in, mouth already opening to inquire when a jarring thought occurs to her. What if they had wolf ..anythings? She swallows and shyly offers Boy her hand.* um.. Look, there are funny looking chickens over there..

[Boy]
"Oh?"

Yes, it was that easy to distract him. At least it was here. Boy took her hand, without really thinking twice about it. Her long, spindly fingers intertwining with his rough, flinty ones.

"Oh I know what that is. They've smoked them. The meat keeps longer like that, and there's a different flavor."

[Wendy Berber]
*She does a double take, looking at a cart closer to them. Smoked chickens!* Oh! I didn't even see those ones! trust you to um, see the meat... heh. I meant th-those ones . *Blushing, she points with the hand not tucked in Boy's, farther along the sidewalk where crested fighting cocks rustled and squawked in wooden crates.* They're sort of pretty.

[Boy]
"Ohhh. Yeah, they sort of are, aren't they? I didn't think I'd see live roosters in the city. I guess that means the food around here must be pretty good. Oh hey, where we going anyway?"

[Boy]
((Gotta change PCs))

[Wendy Berber]
Oh.. I was looking for a Thai restaurant.. I thought it was down here.. *She brings her hand up to nibble her knuckle. One benefit of being super tall and skinny, you could stand in place and look over top of people.* Um.. Maybe.. look for anywhere that has script in the window that looks...curlier than the rest of this writing. um.. like this. *She digs inside her satchel and takes out a home-bound book, fabric cover, looseleaf pages. She scrawls a character inside and shows it to boy. * &+3626;&+3619;&+3632;, that means Thai, in Thai.. I think.

[Wendy Berber]
So it should look something like that.

[Boy]
He nods once, understanding, and lets his eyes wander through the crowd again. That hand on her hand was loosening slightly, but tightened suddenly. His free hand came up and shot through the crowd in a point.

"You mean like that?"

Only Boy wasn't pointing at a restaurant, but a cart, with a man hurriedly tossing together items in a large wok.

[Wendy Berber]
Oh! *she exclaims, smiling a moment.* yes. j-just like that!

[Boy]
And now came the adventure of cutting though the crowd, for which Boy was apparently quite prepared. With Wendy in hand he begins to push his way through, eager to try this brand new Thai stuff.

[Wendy Berber]
Oh oh my.. *She's pulled through the crowd, like threading a needle, even if people made way for her mate in the exact way they didnt make way for Wendy. She stops short at the cart, a little flushed. * Oh. um.. what would you like?

[Boy]
He shrugs his shoulders, giving her a completely clueless look.

"I dunno. I wouldn't know what to ask for. What do you recommend?"

[Wendy Berber]
Phad thai is really good. And um, so is Coconut Curry Chicken. *She says, reading the badly translated English menu.* How about those. We can um, share, if you want? That way you can taste both. *She looks to him, pushing her glasses up and raising an eyebrow in question.* Unless you want something with red meat?

[Boy]
Another shrug.

"That sounds good. Mm. Smells good too."

Boy didn't get too close to the vendor. Already he was scaring off a few customers with the way he gazed at them through the crowd. The Vendor, however, seemed oblivious to it all. He just fervently tossed the contents of his wok and would eventually ask "Hottormile?" when they'd ordered.

[Wendy Berber]
um. Hot curry, mild noodles, please. *There, one of each. She watches Boy drive the crowd off, a nervous smile to an asian woman who glares and takes her crying child away to another cart.* Boy? Are you ok?

[Boy]
"A lot of people around here." he says. It wasn't really an answer to his question, and yet it was. If she could startle him by walking into a room at the wrong time, she who he knew and cared for, what would he do if someone out of this crowd...tried something.

[Wendy Berber]
How about we take the Thai food and g-go back to the house? Its.. sorta a bad time of the month to b-be out anyway.. right? *She suggests carefully, glancing to the Wok-man as he slops Phad thai into a takeout container. Wendy, nibbles her lip, watching the young man, scanning the crowd.* Lots of people.

[Boy]
"Mm...Mmno. No, I want to be out. We can just...I dunno. There's gotta be a quiet place around here somewhere, right?"

[Wendy Berber]
Want to.. maybe.. *She looks around, thinking. AHAH!* How about in an alley!? We can still watch everyone from there...

[Boy]
Alley? A dark, wet, Out of sight place where out of sight things tend to take place?

"Sounds perfect." He says with a smile, and lets his thumb brush over the back of her hand. The containers are closed and set aside for them to pay for. Boy picks them both up in his free hand.

[Wendy Berber]
Kay.. oh, um keep the change sir. thank you. *She pays for the food nervously, blushing as she makes to follow Boy. To an alley. The significance of that not hitting her as she weaves through the crowd. She's worried about someone setting off a fire cracker or something and Boy suddenly.. no no.. Best just duck into an alley.*

[Boy]
When they manage to find an alley he sighs in relief, finally letting go of her hand and leaning up against a wall.

"Yeah. That's a bit better. So what do we have here?"

[Wendy Berber]
Oh um.. coconut curry chicken..aaand Phad Thai noodles. *Wendy drags crates over for them to sit on, testing the strength of hers before sitting Beside boy, back against the wall. She sighs.* The curry is hot. *She produces plastic cutlery from her satchel, offering them shyly in her palm.*

[Boy]
He accepts the seat. Accepts it by sitting on it, of course. And takes one if the plastic forks from her.

"Hmm. Lets start with that then."

[Wendy Berber]
Kay.. *She unclasps the top on the coconut curry and offers it to him. The garou eats first. A lesson so ingrained she doesn't even realize why she waits, skinny kin simply sitting and watching to see if he likes it or not.*

[Boy]
It was a rule that he didn't even realize he was following most times. Garou eat first. The Alpha eats first. Even Marrick, who could just take the food if she really wanted to, offered, fed, and practically forced food onto him first. So he hardly considered the hidden meaning behind it. He just accepted the food, forked a few bites of curry into his mouth, and ate noisily before handing the remainder back.

Boy smacked his lips, savoring the flavor.

[Wendy Berber]
*Wendy eats a good deal more quietly. A backhand to the mouth as a child had quite cured her of chewing noisily. Who said violence never solved anything? Her eyes a little watery, as the spice hits her. She opens the Phad Thai and offers it up, content to eat and watch people through the mouth of the alley. Just spending idle pleasant time with Boy.* .. this is nice.

[Boy]
This must have been her revenge. For all the blushing Boy had made Wendy do in their time together, now it was her chance to see his face turn tomato red. He hissed air in through his teeth and smacked his lips, wiping off a sheen of sweat. He smiled awkwardly.

"Yeah. Nice."

And the two ate together, the girl and her monster, in a dark alley.

The End.
