Black Unicorn is PISSED!

[Marrick]
Dice Rolled:[ 4 d10 ] 3, 4, 6, 10 (Success x 2 at target 6)
(is she coherent today?)
[Boy]

Black Unicorn had returned. Or at least, it had been around, made its presence known. And the eagerness in Boy had to be tempered all these days. They had to prepare, he knew. They would have to atone, have to beg and scrape and prove themselves worthy of their totems patronage once again. And just dashing off to be trampled under the hooves of the possibly still-annoyed Black Unicorn wasn't quite an option.

Boy knew a bit about the totem. He knew that Black Unicorn was the totem of defenders and knights; old, noble, and honorable. And so it was that he marched through the Umbra carrying the Pennant with the Black Unicorn emblazoned on it. The only sign of Chivalry he knew, other than the pledge to protect, which he carried in his heart.
[Marrick]

She came clean.

Literally. The Fury bathed, she cleansed, she purified, she did anything and everything she could think of to do to make herself presentable for their totem. She even combed her hair. Black Unicorn was a totem who demanded that they protect their allies. That they protect and uphold what was right.

The Fury could understand that, and she went with heavy heart and knowing. She was no demure lady, and he was no lord. But they were chosen once before, and they would prove themselves again.
[Black Unicorn]

*There's been a sense lately, in the umbra around the pack house. A sense of grim expectation. Marrick and Boy are clean and prepped and ready to fight for forgiveness. And it isn't long until they get the opportunity to do just that. They feel the familiar presence an angry totem an instant before the Umbra around them is shifting with a sickening snap. And they are no longer in the Umbral reflection of the house they'd made a home. But on a charred battlefield strewn with the fallen bodies of opposing knights. Black unicorn standing in the distance, a vision of righteous nobility, flame gouting from his nostrils. The time for reckoning at hand.*
[Boy]

If it were real breath in his lungs, Boy would have held it. He would have closed his eyes and braced himself. But in the world of spirits nothing was what it seemed. And when he thought himself close to redemption, close to regaining the favor of the Totem that seemed made for him (or was he made for Black Unicorn?) only to be plucked from one place and dropped into another, he knew that it had really barely begun.

Eager eyes fixed themselves on Unicorn's Shadow in the distance, With its glistening black hide, sharp gleaming horn, and flames of Rage pouring forth from its nostrils. He shoulders the flag and pole to cast a look at Marrick, one full of equal parts hope and worry, and he continues forward across the battlefield.
[Marrick]

She was born for this. There was blood and bodies and fallen along the sidelines.

The Fury saw their totem at hand, and she saw what they were supposed to do, and she saw so much, and she knew her eyes were supposed to be on Black Unicorn, but they wouldn't stay htere. Instead, she found them going to the bodies they passed. They went there to survey the damaged, to see if they were injured, to see if they needed help.

If she saw nothing, she continued forward. If something moved, something twitched, something gave indication that it was alive, she darted in that direction.
[Black Unicorn]

Marrick moves to check knights, and Black Unicorn's head swivels in regard. The knights are still, but suddenly Unicorn's shadow is not. Hooves bang like thunderclaps as the two garou find themselves in the path of a stampeding equine. Muscles working under a glossy coat, he bears down on them, only just coming up short, nearly bouncing off Marrick with his broad chest, dancing in high stepping irriatation. Flame nearly singes Boy's banner as their totem regards them with eyes of fathomless starlight.

The powerful black equine standing before them is majestic in every way. Head held high with pride free of haughtiness or falsehood. Fierce, Strong, and Furious. His voice a boom in their minds.*

"Where is White Oak? I see only Brother of the Lost and Bones to Dust before me. Why do only two of your pack have the dignity to stand before me in failure? White Oak has left your pack without atoning for the dishonour he brought in my name. You both have brought shame to me as well. Speak of your deeds and misdeeds both.

*Nostrils flare as the huge equine tosses his head, threatening through presence alone, grievously affronted, though his tone remains respectful.*
[Marrick]

"I have failed to protect my packmates, and I have failed to protect my allies. I have..." a faltering step "I have not..."

She was having a hard time saying this. Especially with Boy right there, but she knew what she had to say, and Marrick knew that it was true.

"I haven't protected my friends, my companions, and those who my brother holds dear. I have been selfish with my service. I have been prideful. I have been inconsiderate... and in being this I have been cruel."

She inhales.

"And it is in my... my..." a pause that read, clearly aw shit "my havin' my head stuck in the clouds or wherever that... that I failed you."

(-1 WP to try and sound not like a dumbass)
[Boy]

The clapping thunder of hooves sends a shock up Boy's spine, one that paralyzes him as the totem charges. He thinks he's about to be trampled until, at the very last moment, instinct kicks in beyond fear or shame. He dodges, just barely, and swings around to face Black Unicorn, his chest suddenly more massive as his glabro form huffs excitedly. It was a reaction Boy still had no control over. But he at least knew that it was not right of this situation. His muscular arms raise and plunge the pole of the flag, planting it into the ground, and Brother of the Lost falls to one knee, shifting to his smaller birth form even as the smell of sod and blood fill his nose. He inclines his head, respectfully avoiding eye contact.

"I've failed to stand by my packmates. I've failed, as alpha of my pack, to lead them properly in their duty. I've failed to protect and defend my kin and I've put my own concerns above theirs."
[Black Unicorn]

*Boy's dodging and shifting is regarded calmly, and Black unicorn listens to each pack member in turn, shifting with powerful animation, head held high. The heavy weight of his starry gaze on Marrick as she speaks before her Alpha. Despite this, it is Boy he addresses first.*

And of White Oak? Who speaks for him?

*There is blood scent in the umbral breeze, grass shifting around them in stark contrast to the scattered nights, who do not. The clatter of battle still echoing through the glen.*
[Boy]

"White Oak has gone on. He's been called away by his tribe and the sept of his home. As for his failures...He failed to protect a comrade who fell in battle. And..."

For a momen't Boy's eyes dance around, the grass in front of him as he thought desperately.

"And for too long he failed to protect our pack home, choosing to live separately. But he made up for this later on. He Moved in, bringing all the things he would defend his own home with. He taught our kin to defend herself for the times when we would not be able to.

"And since White Oak's left, we've found two others. Two who are eager to accept the charge you give us. We'll test them. And should they pass, you will have others that will earn Honor, Wisdom, and Glory in Black Unicorn's name.

"And since our failure I've focussed my efforts. I've protected my Kin even at the cost of my own safety. I've tried to protect my tribemate from her own self destruction, and I've tried to protect her unborn child from her actions as well. When my packmate was injured in battle, I protected her from further harm. I will continue to do this, and more. I will---we will become stronger, more skilled, and better warriors. For you."
[Black Unicorn]

*Black unicorn is very still a moment, nostrils flaring in a puff of smoke as he weighs their words. His own boom with just fervor. When he moves, its to tride in a circle around them. Speaking to them both now.*

You have failed me in spirit and intent. You have been lax in your duties to me, and your duties to your pack. That White Oak does not atone for letting his allies fall without attempting to protect them. That Bones to Dust is Cruel when she should be Kind. That she cannot focus on what it is that she is to do in my name. This shows me you have not taught them what it is to do honor by me. To fight under my banner.

Make right by those your pack have wronged. Strike a lasting blow against those who would prey on the defenseless. Give Sanctuary to those that need it. Aid your allies without thought to your own benefit.

Only then come seeking my favor. Only then will I trust your judgment in bringing others to represent me. You come with little to offer but apologies. In war, we value action when one's oath has proven false.
[Boy]

"We will. We swe--"

Boy stops himself. His sworn word meant nothing right now. Not until they could redeem themselves. Through action.

"We will." He says simply, and with conviction.
[Marrick]

She didn't say a word.

And while the words stung they were her own admissions. And while they rang true and angered in her ears, there was no recourse. No faltering. No doubt.

"Done."

One word.
[Black Unicorn]

*A snort of dire disapproval, and suddenly they're both back standing in the umbral reflection of the pack house. Without their banner.*
[Marrick]

(thanks for the scene! I had a blast!)

Marrick has left In Character Room
[Black Unicorn]

*Boy and Marrick would note upon re-entering the pachouse proper, that the paint of the Black Unicorn Mural is chipping and peeling, not yet beyond repair, but certainly not as they had left it))
